Image
Featuring my thick and nuggy Chonky Boy Chocolate Chip Cookies, these ice cream sandwiches are the stuff that summer dreams are made of.  If you've ever had the Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich at Disneyland , you are going to LOVE these!  These big and bold chocolate chip cookies are based on a recipe from my culinary school studies at Auguste Escoffier, but with a few modifications to give them that Jennuine touch.  They make the perfectas book for a fat slice of real vanilla bean ice cream.  And those mini chips?  You just gotta have that extra cronch! Thank goodness this recipe only makes 8 sandwiches, otherwise I would be eating them for breakfast lunch and dinner.  This way, my big family can help save me from my inner child diet-saboteur.   Print With Image Without Image Chonky Boy Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches Yield: 8 Author: Jenn Erickson Loaded with chocolate chips and buttery, brown-sugary vanilla flavor, these mall-sized cookies form a perfect partnership with a

GET YOUR SMURF ON! A Quick and Easy How-to for Making Your Own Smurf Hat:

I can still remember wheeling out my family's 13" Sony Trinitron on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons with my brother and catching our first glimpse of the teaser commercial for a new show called "Smurfs".

And like every other relic from the quintessential 1970/80s childhood, Hollywood is dusting off the boys (and girl) in blue, and giving them a modern spin for new generations in this summer's movie lineup.  One can only hope that it doesn't go the way of the depressingly awful, childhood-classic-massacre of the Where the Wild Things Are movie in 2009.  Yeah, I'm still bitter about that one.  But I digress...

My youngest daughter has been utterly captivated by the "coming attractions" for the Smurfs movie, and decided, on her own that when the movie is released, she would like to attend in full Smurf regalia. I'm thankful that she wanted a Smurf hat and not something more challenging like a Harry Potter Hogwarts uniform, or a Bumblebee mech suit for the Transformers movie. A Smurf hat is just my speed, and is perfect for anyone with the most basic of sewing skills.

Here's how to make a Smurf hat for your own pint-sized pretenders...

SIMPLE SMURF HAT TUTORIAL

(2) 14"x10" pieces of white fleece
(Note: 1/3 yard will make three hats)

Step 1:  Download and print both pieces of the pattern.  The pattern is sized to fit heads with a circumference of 21"-22" inches.  You can resize the pattern as you see fit.  Fit both sides of the pattern together.  Tape together, then cut.

Step 2:  Trace pattern on to a doubled-up piece of fleece. Pin pieces together.

Step 3:  With a ruler and pencil, ADD a 1/2" to the bottom of the hat (so, you're extending the height of the hat by an additional 1/2").  This will also give you a fold-line for the brim.

Step 4:  Cut.
Step 5:  Sew. Remove pins.

Step 6:  Fold up the raw edge by 1/2" (along your pencil line).  Pin and sew in place.

Step 7:  Turn the hat right-side-out, and you're done.  Wear and feel perfectly Smurfy.
