Chonky Boys: The Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches that Scream Summer!

Image
Featuring my thick and nuggy Chonky Boy Chocolate Chip Cookies, these ice cream sandwiches are the stuff that summer dreams are made of.  If you've ever had the Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich at Disneyland , you are going to LOVE these!  These big and bold chocolate chip cookies are based on a recipe from my culinary school studies at Auguste Escoffier, but with a few modifications to give them that Jennuine touch.  They make the perfectas book for a fat slice of real vanilla bean ice cream.  And those mini chips?  You just gotta have that extra cronch! Thank goodness this recipe only makes 8 sandwiches, otherwise I would be eating them for breakfast lunch and dinner.  This way, my big family can help save me from my inner child diet-saboteur.   Print With Image Without Image Chonky Boy Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches Yield: 8 Author: Jenn Erickson Loaded with chocolate chips and buttery, brown-sugary vanilla flavor, these mall-sized cookies form a perfect partnership with a

Easy, Elegant Raven Wreath

Every October I like tinkering around with dollar store finds to try to make a new Halloween decoration that is quick and easy, but has a certain elegance too.  I was glad to see that our local Dollar Tree stores were once again carrying a brood of black-feathered birds.   There's a certain elegance to blackbirds with their glossy black wings and somber silhouettes -- the perfect plumage with which to create a simple, yet striking Halloween wreath.

Easy, Elegant Raven Wreath
Approx. Cost:  $12
Time:  Less than 10  minutes

Materials
1 small wreath form 9 1/2" (I found mine in the dollar section at Target)
10 dollar store black birds (pick ones that are all facing the same direction)
Glue Gun
Spray Adhesive (I like Elmer's Craft Bond)
Black Microfine Glitter (I used PK Glitz)
Optional:  Black string or cord for hanging

Step 1:  (Optional) Tie a string around the wreath form if you plan on hanging the wreath from a string.  Because the wreath is lightweight, and my form is styrofoam, I was able to simply hang it over a hook on my door.

Step 2:  Remove all the legs from the faux crows.

Step 3:  Hot glue the birds to the wreath form.  I positioned them so that they were affixed to the wreath by the upper breast area.  This allowed for even spacing and a nice opening in the center.

Step 4:  Once birds have all been glued in place, set the wreath on a piece of newspaper.  Spray beaks, heads and napes of birds with adhesive.  Quickly move to a second piece of newspaper and sprinkle tacky areas with fine black glitter.  Allow a few minutes to dry, then shake off excess.  Return extra glitter to container by rolling newspaper into a funnel.

Step 5: Trim any stray or gangly feathers with scissors, then hang your wreath and enjoy!
