"BABY FOOD" Cupcakes Your Guests Will Go GAGA Over (and a free printable to use for favors too!)

Sweet Little Cakes Baked Right in the Jar!

Looking for a unique, yet simple dessert for a baby shower or birthday party that is sure to garner plenty of ooohs and ahhs?

If you can bake cupcakes from a mix, then you can make these wonderful little "Baby Food" Lookalike Cakes.

Here's how it's done:

Baby Food Lookalike Cakes
For milestone birthdays and baby showers
Makes one batch, one flavor
  • 2 dozen standard baby food jars, labels removed, sterilized
  • Cake batter
  • Frosting
  • Sprinkles (color coordinated for type of babyfood
  • Baby Food Jar Label PDF (choose birthday or baby shower)
  • Full sheet adhesive labels (or regular paper and adhesive spray)
  1. Prepare your favorite cake batter (from scratch or mix).
  2. Fill each jar 1/3 full with batter.  I like to place the jars in the depressions of a standard cupcake pan for support while baking.
  3. Bake approx 18 minutes (depending on your cake recipe), until cakes are cooked through
  4. While cakes are cooling, prepare your frosting.
  5. When cakes have cooled, top cakes with frosting.
  6. Adorn frosting with green sprinkles for peas or orange sprinkles for carrots.
  7. Print out labels and wrap around jars
Tips/Ideas: I like to make Carrot Cake to go with the Carrot labels. If you like Green Tea, you can get a wonderful green cake for the sweet pea jars by adding add Matcha (Green Tea) powder to white cake batter. You can also add food coloring to your batter to have a colored cake, but white cake works well and looks appetizing too. When I made created this project I only had jimmy-style sprinkles on hand. Next time, I plan on using nonpariel-style sprinkles for a finer look.

  14. Hello there, commenter above (sorry, couldn't find your name). Which label were you trying to print? I checked all four links by clicking on the "HERE", and all four documents came up in Firefox. Let me know which label is giving you trouble, and perhaps give a different browser a shot. Jenn

  16. Is it better to use 4 oz jars or 6 oz?

    1. Great question, Britt. I'm going to have to double-check the next time I go to the grocery store. I can't remember what size I used without actually looking at the jars. I'm 99% sure it was the 4oz. size, but will comment again after I double check.
