Summer Foraging Recipe: Elderberry-Blueberry Jam with Chia Seeds

Image
In the woodland valleys of Central California, Elderflower trees have been in bloom all spring with their prolific, lacy white blossoms.  I've enjoyed making Elderflower syrup, candied elderflowers and sweet Elderflower Tempura.  A few days ago, I noticed that some of the trees are starting to bear fruit -- diminutive, tart little berries, deep purplish-blue growing in heavy clusters.

Inspired by a love of biscuits and jam, foraging, and adapted from a recipe from Simply Beyond Herbs, I whipped up a simple and delicious jam made from the foraged Elderberries, fresh blueberries and using chia seeds for a perfect jammy consistency.

Enjoy and Happy Foraging!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Luvocracy and I really, truly "luv" it!

You're suddenly struck with the inevitable fact: Valentine's Day is just around the corner... You flashback to that time you were browsing online and saw that certain something that had your loved-one's name written all over it... but you can't quite remember where you saw it, or exactly what "it" was for that matter (it was July, after all, and life's been a whirlwind since then) Now you're not sure what to get The fallback box of chocolates? Sigh...
Sound familiar?
For me, this scenario plays itself out time and time again -- birthdays, Father's Day, Christmas, etc.  My memory...oh the poor gal just 'aint what she used to be.  When it comes to remembering the "perfect gift" from the time I first see it to the time that I need it, I could definitely use some help.

Sponsored posts can be a great way for bloggers to earn a little bit of pocket money to help cover the costs (and countless hours) that go in to providing free, quality content.
But I feel strongly that sponsored gigs should be a natural fit for the style of the blog and present a real value to its followers.  Here's what you're not going to find me blogging about here at Rook No. 17:  Products that I do not or would not use.  This includes heavily processed and/or chemically laden foods, non-recycleable plastics, chemical air freshener and other items that I wouldn't naturally buy for my family.  I don't judge those that do -- it's just not authentic for me.

When considering a campaign, I ask:
Do I already use and love this product? --or-- Is this…

For my best bud Geri, it was Menudo. I was a retro junkie, even as a kid, so my heartthrobs were the Monkees. And now, for my youngest daughter, it's Big Time Rush. That's right -- Boy Bands -- Good, squeaky clean pop music fun. Ever since Big Time Rush introduced their boy-band synth-pop on Nickelodeon in 2009, it's been nothing but "James [this]," and, "Kendall [that]," around here. So, when Kool-Aid and Walmart presented me with the opportunity to take my daughter to see the boys live in concert, I knew that this was a chance to make one young fan's dream come true.
Because the BTR tour is sponsored by Kool-Aid, I thought it would be fun to rock…
