Chonky Boys: The Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches that Scream Summer!

Image
Featuring my thick and nuggy Chonky Boy Chocolate Chip Cookies, these ice cream sandwiches are the stuff that summer dreams are made of.  If you've ever had the Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich at Disneyland , you are going to LOVE these!  These big and bold chocolate chip cookies are based on a recipe from my culinary school studies at Auguste Escoffier, but with a few modifications to give them that Jennuine touch.  They make the perfectas book for a fat slice of real vanilla bean ice cream.  And those mini chips?  You just gotta have that extra cronch! Thank goodness this recipe only makes 8 sandwiches, otherwise I would be eating them for breakfast lunch and dinner.  This way, my big family can help save me from my inner child diet-saboteur.   Print With Image Without Image Chonky Boy Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches Yield: 8 Author: Jenn Erickson Loaded with chocolate chips and buttery, brown-sugary vanilla flavor, these mall-sized cookies form a perfect partnership with a

Tutorial: Christmas Tree Elf Hat

Image
I'm as big of a fan of the red and white Santa cap as the jolly old man himself, but if you're looking for something new, I have a fun and easy hat project to make for your caroling group, scout troop, or merry gathering.   My daughter's Brownie troop marches in our town's Holiday Parade of Lights every year.  Oh, we had some pretty grand plans when we started talking about it back in August, but then school started, moms went back in to the workforce, life got busy, and suddenly it was the week of the parade!  Thank goodness Jellyfish Jelly - Creative Kids linked-up the Crepe Paper Christmas Tree Hat on "A Little Birdie Told Me..." that week.        I adapted the project to withstand the coastal fog and the rough-and-tumble group of girls by using felt rather than crepe paper.  To add a little festive "jingle" as the girls marched in the parade, we used colorful jingle bells in the place of sequins.  The girls had fun putt

DIY: Restoration Hardware Style Vintage Train Station Clock

Image
Here's my Restoration Hardware knock-off:  $25 As I confess in my profile, I'm a nostalgist, vintage junkie and an Anglophile to boot.  So when I saw the Metro Lighted Train Station Clock (a reproduction of the clocks that once lighted the bustling train stations of 1940s Britain) in the Restoration Hardware catalog, it was love at first sight.  But at $995 , the love affair didn't last long. Here's the one in the catalog...$995 So, when Elmer's asked me to participate in their LOOKS FOR LESS CHALLENGE, I knew just what I'd do to "reproduce a retail-quality item using Elmer's and X-ACTO products while making the most of my decorating dollar." Using an inexpensive wall clock ($16), Elmer's black-on-black foam board, my X-ACTO Gripster knife, and my trusty Craft Bond adhesives, I was able to create my own version of the Metro Train Station Clock for less than $25.  My version doesn't light up.  It doesn't come with

TOP 10 GIFTS FOR THE HOME CHEF OR BAKER

Holiday gift buying can be a challenge.   But if you know someone who loves to cook or has a passion for baking, it doesn't have to be.  There are so many affordable choices when it comes to picking out a gift for the culinary enthusiast.  To make picking out the right tools even easier, I've asked some of my most favorite food bloggers for their recommendations for "must-have" kitchen tools. Recommended by: Dorothy Reinhold A kitchen timer for a gift might seem prosaic, but this, my friends, isn’t just any old kitchen timer. This is a digital Polder Clock, Timer & Stopwatch, and it will change your life! Sure, we all have a timer built into our ovens, but if you’re like me, you need something more portable. I swear by this…in fact, I so often have it swinging around my neck that it might as well be my necklace! I usually have two or three things going at once in the kitchen. A single timer simply won’t do for multi-task cooking. In tha
