Featuring my thick and nuggy Chonky Boy Chocolate Chip Cookies, these ice cream sandwiches are the stuff that summer dreams are made of.  If you've ever had the Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich at Disneyland , you are going to LOVE these!  These big and bold chocolate chip cookies are based on a recipe from my culinary school studies at Auguste Escoffier, but with a few modifications to give them that Jennuine touch.  They make the perfectas book for a fat slice of real vanilla bean ice cream.  And those mini chips?  You just gotta have that extra cronch! My family has completely fallen for Disney's Frozen.  
It seems as though every household in the land has been similarly frostbitten.

I've enjoyed reading comments and getting emails thanking me for the LEGO Movie party invitation template that I shared in January. It's nice to know that many families have enjoyed using the invites for their own celebrations.


I figured that with the popularity of Frozen, there are bound to be a lot of Frozen-inspired parties in the works these days.  So, I put together a trio of Frozen Movie Theater Style Invitations that can be downloaded for free, personalized and printed.

Disclaimer -- PLEASE READ -- These templates are not for sale and are not for profit. I'm sharing the templates free of charge, but as such, am not able to provide any custom work or tech support for how to use photo editing software. If you're new to photo editing and are ambivalent to try, there are many talented people selling movie ticket style invitations on Etsy. They will personalize them for you for $8-$10 -- a great deal! 

If you're ready to proceed with customizing your own invitations, follow the step-by-step instructions below:

Step 1:  Click on the invitation you want and download directly from my Photobucket.

Step 2:  Use a photo editing program like Picasa (free online) PicMonkey (free online) or the one you're comfortable using to add text.  

Here are the names of the fonts I used:  
  • Arial Bold (for the "VIP" and other block text)
  • Digital-7 (for Day, Time and Month)
  • Marcelle Script (for the birthday party line)
  • OCRATTRegular (for the rest of the details)

Step 3:  Print.  You have two choices.  These invitations are formatted to be automatically centered on a 4x6 photo.  This makes them easy to upload to a photo service (I use Costco) and have 4x6 prints made.  You will get one invitation per print and will have to trim away the left and right white margins.  You can also print at home.  If you use your photo editing software to crop off the left and right margins, you can print the images (maintaining the 6" height) 3 to a sheet of glossy photo paper.

Update: I've added templates for printable envelopes. They are in PDF format. Click on the desired style to download from Google Drive. Print on heavy stock. Cut out. Fold along all the lines. Apply glue to the flaps, then fold.

With the Christmas tree curbside, and the ornaments all neatly packed away, I'm thankful for my small collection of winter decorations that can be left out a bit longer to grace my home with their snowy sparkle and winter whimsy. Vintage Style Folk Art Black Cat Halloween Bucket

One of my favorite characters from vintage Halloween folk art is the black cat ~ always sporting a mischievous look and a cheeky grin.     Last year, I transformed a trio of styrofoam pumpkins from the dollar store into paper mache folk art .   This year, with the same $1 budget in mind, I set to work on a classic blown plastic jack-o-lantern treat bucket -- the same jolly guy that's been around since I was a kid.     Although I'm nostalgic for his familiar orange mug, I thought it would be fun to transform him into a wiley black cat.  So, one afternoon, my daughter and I grabbed an old newspaper and our Mod Podge and set to work... Recipe: New World German Brown Bread -- "Squaw Bread"

I recall, as a child, going to The Chart House restaurant and looking forward to the basket of freshly baked breads.  My favorite was always the dark brown, slightly sweet bread that the servers called "Squaw Bread".  I've heard that a similar bread is served at The Cheesecake Factory.  The name has gone out of fashion, since "squaw" is a derogatory term for a Native American woman.   The history of this bread can in fact trace its roots to Native American origins when German pioneers combined their traditional German Brown Bread recipe with ingredients available to them through trades with the native people during their westward travels.
